A New Study for Addicts: Turning off the inner brain
An animal study shows the notion that drug cravings can be turned off by shutting down parts of the brain. This finding could mean that drugs trained to operate on the insular cortex of the brain, precisely, could stop the brain from feeling the pain associated with cravings and body disturbances due to withdrawl.
But what does the insular cortex do otherwise that is needed for human life? Well basically it handles human emotion, things like ability to feel sympathetic to others, sadness, happiness, etc. Suppose this will go back to lobotomies done in the 1950’s that turned people into Zombies, if refined this new discovery could lead to either medication or electrode implants which could attempt to stop these emotions from coming into the addiction play. In addition to helping addicts, it could help in weigh loss, where this particular region of the brain handles cravings.
This new information is important because we could have guessed that shutting down a brain would stop cravings, but the object is to shut down only particular areas of the brain.
Sending Teens to Prison - Gov. Carcieri’s failed plan
Vote for bad republicans today goes to Republican Gov. Don Carcieri who implemented a very stupid plan to save Rhode Island some money without doing any homework. Smart (not) lawmakers have now advocated to save juvinille courts and family services money by ruling that many teens are to be tried as adults for things like drug laws. Many people know that teens are emotional hormonal beings that are likely to sew wild oats, and isn’t that what teen years are for? With pressure from peers, and just plain experimentation to adulthood many teens try a few joints, a bit of crack cocaine, some ecstasy etc to see what happens. Some get addicted, hooked up and some go into adulthood with it. Many teens just try it out and eventually find that it is not taking them anywhere, they stop and go on to college, a job, or a fruitful life.
But a few lawmakers trying to save a few dollars, get together and decide that instead they will put teens into prison with adults for a while to shake them up. What a liability. Are you people serious.
Rhode Island, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin try 17-year-olds as adults, according to the National Center for Juvenile Justice. Connecticut, New York and North Carolina try 16-year-olds in adult courts, although Connecticut has raised the age of juvenile court jurisdiction from 16 to 18 for most offenses starting in 2010.
College-bound teenagers arrested under the new law risk losing federal financial aid if convicted of a drug crime. Those looking for work will have to disclose a criminal record. If the 17-year-olds had been in Family Court, their records would be hidden from public view.
What a great way to write off a few youth in favor of saving a few dollars. How ’bout we save some money by getting rid of high salaries for stupid lawmakers and those in government positions that fail to do their homework?
Without doing much homework, Republican Gov. Don Carcieri’s office came up with an idea to put juveniles in the adult system to save some money. The Gov’s goof up ended up costing the State of Rhode Island over $104,000 dollars instead of $40,000 that would be saved in the juvenille system. Very smart Governor.
Not to mention something called human rights.
Amy Whitehouse Go Go Goes to Rehab
So the ruthless girl who tried to convince everyone that rehab was crap, showed glowing colors by admitting that something was stronger than she was - and went to rehab today!
It was a catchy tune, Amy, but yeah, yeah, yeah, time to go go go to rehab.
Here you can catch a glimpse of that wonderful song, which became the theme song for millions of youthful druggies. Ah but alas, karma is bigger than life.
Good luck to you sista, hope you make it through.
Seratonin Testing
Well, finally, they do have a test for whatever ails you, and if you don’t know exactly what that is, try for example the seratonin test.
According to one only psych educator there is a test, and he is not in favor of revealing who does it. Why? Well who knows why. If you have ADHD such as this writer, the one thing is that you won’t be able to get through the mundance task of reading why. You may suffer from a lack of seratonin, the 5ht gene, or whatever it is that is ailing you, but you certainly won’t get help from this place. So let’s do a bit of research.
1. Some of the foremost doctors in the genetic understanding of seratonin related issues are listed 0n the nimh website. Try Dr. Lesch
I’ve tired for years to understand the genetic pinnings of depression and I can tell you that only recently was it ever confirmed that depression was in fact genetic. You can easily have deduced that from miserable depressed and crazy families. Like the Hatfields and McCoy’s. But until lately it was never really confirmed leaving us all guessing. Why is it important to know what you actually have asks Dr. Jim Phelps. The answer is simple: if you have a family full of crazies, maybe you want to know what help could be gotten for the problem, IF you knew WHAT the issue was.
The problem with psychiatry these days is that since it’s all new science, it’s very easy for junk doctors to start giving you paxil, prozac, and a host of other anti-depressants without knowing exactly what they are treating. Guessing is a fine art in the current doctor’s office and if you’ve ever had depression it can be quite frustrating, if not downright miserable and life saving.
Now, back to that test. Take a look at Mayo Clinic, that I just found on the internet which gives the exact reasons I cited above as the reason for telling people where to get the test. That’s right, I’m not a shrink, I only speak from personal experience that depression is no fun and if you can help people find treatment (as God knows there are many out there that don’t work for each person), then you have an obligation to make that information known and free. Why hide it?! It appears that the Mayo Clinic Test is here
Other places to get seratonin testing along with other testing is this lab does many of the tests for only $185.00
Other places to find information on mental health and alternative medicines are Safeharbour - some very interesting information there. and here
